Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Nose reshaping surgery or rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures worldwide. Rhinoplasty can reshape the nose simply if one is dissatisfied with its appearance, or remodel it after an injury. Our aim at Reborn is to create a nose that is both attractive and natural in its appearance and fits in with the rest of your facial features.

What does the operation involve?

The operation is usually carried out under general anaesthesia. Small incisions are made inside your nose and a combination of nasal bone, nasal skin and nasal cartilage remodelling are used to achieve the desired natural looking nose.

What happens after the operation?

Your surgery will last between two to three hours and you will usually be able to leave the clinic on the same day as your surgery. You will have a small plaster cast on your nose which will remain in place for one week to protect the nasal bones. There will be mild bruising and swelling for at least 2 to 3 weeks. We ask that you refrain from strenuous activity or exercise until 6 weeks after your surgery.

How long do the results last?

Rhinoplasty is an operation that is designed to last a lifetime. However, it is possible that revision surgery is required in a small number of patients. The full benefit of the surgery will only become apparent 12 to 18 months after the procedure once the swelling has settled down.

What are the risks of an Rhinoplasty?

When carried out by an appropriately qualified plastic surgeon there are very few complications associated with this surgery. However, minor complications include: mild skin infection, bleeding (blood clot which needs surgical drainage), asymmetry, and temporary loss of smell. Your surgeon will go through the risks of the operation in more detail at your consultation.

Pre-Surgery Preparation

You’ll have the opportunity to go through a consultation before the surgery which will help us to understand your surgery expectations. It’s important that you’re as transparent as possible at this stage so we can establish the best course of action. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the procedure. To ensure your ultimate safety and the surgery goes as smoothly as possible, it’s important to follow these guidelines before surgery:

  • By stopping smoking at least six weeks before surgery so you can prevent the development of blood clots and ensure you have a smoother recovery.
  • Your anaesthesia will be extremely effective if you do not take aspirin.
  • Avoiding herbal supplements or anti-inflammatories will help you to prevent interruptions with your anaesthesia and ensure your recovery goes well.

So you can recover to the best of your ability, give yourself at least two weeks off work after your surgery to give you plenty of time to feel comfortable again.

What Happens During The Procedure?

Your nose job procedure can take between one to two hours length of time and is performed under a local anaesthetic to help numb any pain you might experience. Open and closed rhinoplasty are the two options available to you when opting for the surgery. When a surgeon performs a ‘closed rhinoplasty’, they’re able to perform the surgery through your nostrils and an ‘open’ nose job involves an incision being created to ensure the surgery can be performed.

To ensure you can become familiar with what to expect, here are the following techniques that are used for each type of procedure:

Tip

A tip rhinoplasty relates to a type of nostril reshaping surgery which improves the appearance of your nose by amending or reshaping the cartilage that supports the end of your nose.

This is always done through open rhinoplasty, whereby the surgeon cuts the small area between your nostrils (the columella) to achieve the desired results.

Bridge

Nose surgery can also be a solution to resolving nose bridge issues where protruding bumps tend to occur. By making an opening in the nose it provides access to remove the bone and cartilage where it can be easily removed. For some cases, there is also an option to break and reposition the nose to create a straight and defined look.

Length

By removing the central structure (septum), it reduces the nose tip and shortens the length of the nose. It’s also possible to change the tip cartilage if it’s necessary.

Width

To achieve a narrower nose, the surgeon will break and reposition the nasal bone which will provide a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to your nose.

Nostril Reshaping Aftercare

We’ll apply bandages over your nose and insert a splint to help support your nose and assure that it keeps in place. Although you might experience some discomfort after the surgery, your pain will be reduced with painkillers that we provide. It’s also strongly advised:

  • Avoiding driving after the operation will prevent discomfort being felt
  • Prop your head up with pillows to help reduce swelling and relieve congestion
  • Have cooler baths if possible
  • Engage in light exercise rather than strenuous activity for an easier recovery
  • Blowing your nose will interfere with your recovery so we recommend avoiding this

Potential Risks And Complications

Many plastic surgery operations are performed without any problems, however, every procedure comes with its own risks and complications. Such as:

  • A blocked nose
  • Swelling
  • Bruising and tenderness
  • Stiffness
  • Numbness
  • Nosebleeds

How will I feel after the rhinoplasty surgery (nose job), nose tip surgery?

You will probably feel tired and sleepy, particularly during the first three days after the Rhnioplasty (Nose Job) or Nose Tip Reshaping operation. You will be given some painkillers and tablets to reduce the swelling. The rhinoplasty surgeon might also prescribe antibiotics as a prevention against possible infections.

You might also feel unhappy after a few days. This is normal and is caused due to the stress, general anaesthetic, lack of patience with the healing problems, more pain than you expected or the fact that because you have undergone Rhinoplasty (Nose job) or Nose Tip Surgery abroad you miss your home and family.
